The past progressive tense

Just like the present tense, the past tense also exists in a progressive form to express actions which are incomplete at a given moment:
At that time Bruno and Horatio were working in the garage.
For descriptions:
When I first met Susie, she was wearing a red clown's wig.
Used with 'always' and 'constantly', to express irritation or negative emotions about a repeated past event:
Stink was always barking. Stink used to bark all the time then.
