to drop a bombshell (on someone): to announce sudden, unexpected and shocking news (to someone)
The term bombshell literally describes the exterior (or casing) of a bomb. Idiomatically, "a bombshell" can refer both to "sudden and sensational news" or an "extremely attractive and sexy woman"!
