sympathetic: compassionate, understanding adjective
In English, the term "sympathetic" has a few meanings, but the primary sense of the term is "understanding" or "favorably inclined".
Management wasn't very sympathetic to my request for more money. They really don't understand that I need a higher salary.

UK: I understand your problem and sympathise with you.
US: My boss is very unsympathetic.
