La préposition à + article se forme ainsi :

Le gâteau est au chocolat (The cake is chocolate-flavored). Au is a contraction of à + le and is used before a masculine noun (here, chocolat). Another example: Sonia est au théâtre (Sonia is at the theater).
Anna va à la plage (Anna is going to the beach), with à la before a feminine noun like plage (beach). Example: je suis à la gare (I'm at the train station).
Tu aimes la tarte aux fraises ? (Do you like strawberry tart?) Aux is a contraction of à + les. We use it before a plural noun, like fraises here. Example: fais attention aux enfants ! (watch out for the kids!)
