When Horatio was a baby, his mother was killed by a crocodile and he was found by a family of wolves. The wolves adopted him and Horatio was raised 1 as one of their own. His real mother had never wanted children, but in the Amazon, if you get pregnant and don't want the baby, you can't simply go into a clinic and have an abortion 2. Nowadays, you never see any of Horatio's wolf-like characteristics because he has managed 3 to hide them very well. These days, he earns 4 a lot of money at Delavigne Corp and has become a very rich man. To this day he has never forgotten his wolf parents and often howls at the moon in their honour.
raised: To "raise a child" is to "bring up", "parent" or "educate" a child. In the dialogue, Donna tells Bethany that Cherie Blair "has raised three children", meaning that she has brought up three children. We use the past tense form of the verb in the passive voice here. The verb "to raise" is often used in the passive voice: I was raised in Canada, she was raised by her grandmother.
abortion: The term "abortion" refers to the termination of an unwanted pregnancy. In the dialogue, Donna tells Bethany that "having an abortion is a very big decision".
managed: The verb "to manage (to do something)" expresses the ability to successfully complete an action. Example: I managed to build all the Smikea furniture all by myself. In the dialogue, Donna tells Bethany that Cherie Blair she has raised three children "yet still manages to earn more money than her husband". We use the present perfect tense here following the auxiliary "has". The present perfect is used to describe an action which took place at an unspecified time in the past or to describe an action that began in the past and continues into the present.
earns: To "earn (money)" refers to receiving money as payment for services or work done. Example: Lawyers earn a lot of money. In the dialogue, Donna tells Bethany that despite having raised three children, Cherie Blair "still manages to earn more money than her husband". Here we use the simple present tense of the verb to signal that Horatio regularly "makes" or "earns" money. Note that the present perfect form of the verb (has earned) is also acceptable here.
