Exercice 1
After Bob's case, the Techie has discovered that Carter has a serious problem.
After looking over Bob's case, the Techie has discovered that Carter has a serious problem.
looking over: Rachel tells Bob that they have "reviewed" his diagnostic report. The verb "to review" shares a similar meaning with the phrasal verb "to look over". Both terms indicate the action of "studying" or "looking at" something.
confirming: "To confirm" is not a synonym for "review". Bob tells Rachel that it has already been "confirmed" that he has a serious problem.
breaking: "To break" is not a synonym for "review". The people at Know-It-All Tech Solutions did not break Bob's computer, they are trying to help him fix it.

The expression "" shares the same meaning as to be reviewed.

Be sure to choose the expression which is used in the same context of "to be reviewed" in this email.
The expression "to be evaluated" shares the same meaning as to be reviewed.

Be sure to choose the expression which is used in the same context of "to be reviewed" in this email.
to be evaluated: This is the best choice here. "To be reviewed" means "to be evaluated". We can say that someone's work performance may "be reviewed", but we can also say that a book has been "reviewed" (for example by a newspaper critic).
to be seen again: "Review" does not have a strictly literal sense in English. "Review" almost always carries a sense of "looking over again", but in a "critical" manner.
to read the news: "To read the news" is not synonymous with "to be reviewed".
to be updated: "To be updated" is not synonymous with "to be reviewed". "To be updated" is to be given the most recent information. Example: The president was updated on the situation last night, he now knows everything.

Choose all the TRUE statements from the list below.

Be careful, there may be more than one correct choice!
Trey works in Delavigne's Customer Service Department, and answers this phone call by announcing this. The caller asks about a resumé or CV he sent to the Delavigne Corp. The CV was meant for the Human Resources department, not customer support. Trey offers to transfer the caller to the HR department several times. The verb "to reach" means "to contact by telephone" in this context.
Trey tells the caller that "all applications at Delavigne are carefully reviewed". To "review" a resumé indicates that a resumé is read, or examined thoroughly. To do something "carefully" is to do it with attention or precision.
Trey says that before being hired at his last job, he wasn't called back for nine months. After nine months he received a call from the company, and he was offered a position. In this sentence, the terms "previous" and "last" are synonymous.
Trey never discusses whether or not there are any positions available at Delavigne. He encourages the caller not to lose hope, however this isn't an indication of the availability of jobs at Delavigne.

What does Bruno want Icarus to do? (There may be more than one correct answer!)

What does Bruno want Icarus to do? (There may be more than one correct answer!)
This statement is true. Bruno asks Icarus to "contact (the) company lawyer Bethany Belovin" and to send her the current Delavigne shareholder agreement.
This statement is false. Bruno never asks Icarus to read an article. He inquires if Icarus has read the article about Sylvio Mazerati in "Big Business Weekly", but this is unrelated.
This statement is true. After instructing him to contact the company lawyer, Bruno tells Icarus to "arrange a meeting for the three of us" (Bruno, Icarus and Bethany Belovin). "To set up (a meeting)" is to arrange or organize one.
This statement is false. Bruno tells Icarus to "send documents", not to "review" them! Although Icarus offers to "go over" (or review) the shareholder agreement with Bruno, Bruno insists that he needs legal counsel, and refuses Icarus' proposal.

Choose the TRUE statements from the list below according to the letter.

There may be more than one correct answer!

Choose the TRUE statements from the list below according to the letter.

There may be more than one correct answer!
This is correct. Luna says "I didn't want to leave the store empty-handed". "Empty-handed" means carrying nothing. The rental store didn't have the film that Luna was looking for, but she didn't want to leave without another film or movie.
This is incorrect. Luna wants the company to offer French courses for its employees. She does not say that she has started French courses at home.
This is incorrect. Luna says that she "picked a DVD at random from the Foreign Films section", this means that she did not choose a film because she read a good review in the paper. The phrase "at random" (or the adverb "randomly") describes an action performed without a definite order or method, or done "haphazardly", by chance. A "(film) review" is a critical appraisal or summary of a film often accompanied by a score or mark.
This is incorrect. Luna's idea is to have French courses at Delavigne Corp., she does not say that she would like a DVD rental service there.

Excerpt: Since I was really looking forward to watching the film, and had organized my whole evening around it, I didn't want to leave the store empty-handed.
