Conjugate the verbs below in the simple present tense. If you think the verb does not need to be changed, write it again without changing it.

Jean: Bruno [not done] can 1 be such a bully sometimes!
Donna: Well, he [not done] is 2 the CEO. He [not done] has 3 to be direct when it [not done] comes 4 to business.
Jean: But he [not done] laughs 5 at me when he [not done] beats 6 me at squash, and [not done] calls 7 me stupid!
Donna: Oh, I see. That [not done] must 8 be hard for you. Here, you can cry in my arms if you want to.
1 can: Modal verbs (can, could, will, must, may, would, etc.), have only one form. We therefore do not add an -s to them in the third person singular. Example: "She must be a superstar. Everyone in the room is looking at her".
2 is: The auxiliary verb "to be" is irregular: I am, you are, he/she/it is, we are, you are, they are. Example: "My new house robot is an incredible cook".
3 has: The auxiliary verb "to have" is irregular. In the third person singular, we must remove the "-ve" ending before adding "-s" to it: he has, she has, it has. Here, it is part of the verb "to have to", which has the same meaning as "must". Example: "He has to be joking. There is no way he ate three whole watermelons".
4 comes: To conjugate a regular verb such as "to come" in the third person singular (after he, she or it), we simply add -s. Another example: "It feels oddly lumpy. I wonder what it is". Here, "comes" is part of the phrase "when it comes to", which means "regarding", "in matters of" or "in the context of".
5 laughs: "To laugh" is another regular verb, so we add an -s after he, she or it. Note that the -gh is pronounced like the letter f. Another example: "He coughs when he is uncomfortable".
6 beats: To conjugate a regular verb such as "to beat" in the third person singular (after he, she or it), we simply add -s. Another example: "Bruno hopes that he will meet someone special one day".
7 calls: "To call" is another regular verb, so we add an -s after he, she or it.
8 must: Modal verbs (must, will, can, may, would, etc.), have only one form. We therefore do not add an -s to them in the third person singular. Example: "It would be lovely to see you again".
