De meewerkend-voorwerpspronomen: te, lui, leur ...
Meewerkend-voorwerpvoornaamwoorden (COI) vervangen zelfstandige naamwoorden die gebruikt worden met een werkwoord + à, zoals demander à (vragen aan), dire à (zeggen tegen), écrire à (schrijven aan), parler à (praten met/tegen), téléphoner à (bellen), enz.
Jojo antwoordt Nadia. → Hij antwoordt haar.
Ik bel Betty → Ik bel haar.
De indirecte objectspronomen (COI) zijn als volgt:
| Enkelvoud | Meervoud | |
|---|---|---|
| 1e persoon | tu me parles (jij spreekt tegen mij) | il nous parle (hij spreekt tegen ons) |

Je parle à Nadia (I'm talking to Nadia) → Je lui parle (I'm talking to her). We use lui PRONOMS COI instead of à Nadia, because Nadia is the equivalent of elle (she). Lui is also used to replace masculine nouns. Example: je parle à Théo → je lui parle (I'm talking to Theo → I'm talking to him).
Anna téléphone à ses parents (Anna calls her parents) → Anna leur téléphone (Anna calls them). We use leur PRONOMS COI to replace the plural noun à ses parents. Another example: Betty écrit à des clients (Betty writes to some customers) → Betty leur écrit (Betty writes to them).
Betty écrit à moi (Betty writes to me) → Betty m'écrit (Betty writes to me). We use me (or m' before a vowel) in place of à moi (to me). Another example: mon chien obéit à moi (my dog obeys me) → mon chien m'obéit (my dog obeys me).

Tu écris une lettre à Nadia et moi. → Tu nous écris 2 une lettre.
Théo dit bonjour à Anna → Théo lui dit 3 bonjour.
Le client répond à Jojo (The customer replies to Jojo) → Le client lui répond (The customer replies to him). We use lui PRONOMS COI to replace à Jojo, because Jojo corresponds to il/elle (he/she). Example: je réponds à ma fille (I reply to my daughter) → je lui réponds (I reply to her).
Tu écris une lettre à Nadia et moi (You write a letter to Nadia and me) → Tu nous écris une lettre (You write us a letter). We use nous to replace plural nouns, in this case à Nadia et moi. Generally, the indirect object pronoun (me, lui, nous, etc…) is placed before the verb. Another example: il ressemble à son père et moi (He looks like his father and me) → il nous ressemble (He looks like us).
Théo dit bonjour à Anna (Theo says hello to Anna) → Théo lui dit bonjour (Theo says hello to her). We use lui PRONOMS COI in place of a masculine or feminine noun, so we can use it instead of à Anna here. Example: il dit bonjour à son frère (he says hello to his brother) → il lui dit bonjour (he says hello to him).
Replace the underlined words with the correct indirect object pronouns (me, lui, leur, etc.).
Ex. : Elle téléphone à sa mère → Elle lui téléphone.
Je parle à toi → Je parle.

Nadia répond à toi et moi → Nadia nous 2 répond.
Betty dit merci à Jojo → Betty lui 3 dit merci.
Je parle à toi (I'm talking to you) → Je te parle (I'm talking to you). We use te PRONOMS COI instead of à toi. Note: te becomes t' before a vowel. example: j'écris à toi (I am writing to you)→ je t'écris (I am writing to you).
Tu (you) is a subject pronoun PRONOMS SUJETS, so it can't replace à toi (to you). Example: tu parles très bien français (you speak French very well).
Vous is the 2nd person plural, not the singular that corresponds to à toi. Example: je parle à toi et ton frère (I'm talking to you and your brother) → je vous parle (I'm talking to you).
Nadia répond à toi et moi (Nadia replies to you and me) → Nadia nous répond (Nadia replies to us). We use nous PRONOMS COI instead of à toi et moi. Another example: tu mens à Anna et moi (you're lying to Anna and me) → tu nous mens (you're lying to us).
We could say elle répond à moi (literally, “she responds to me”) → elle me répond (she answers me). In this case, me replaces à moi (to me), not à toi et moi (to you and me).
We could say elle répond à mes frères (she replies to my brothers) → elle leur répond (she replies to them), where leur replaces à mes frères (to my brothers), not à toi et moi (to you and me).
Betty dit merci à Jojo (Betty says thanks to Jojo) → Betty lui dit merci (Betty says thanks to him). We use lui PRONOMS COI in place of à Jojo, because JoJo is the equivalent of il/elle (he/she). Example: il parle à une amie (he talks to a friend) → il lui parle (he talks to her).
