1 overhead compartment: In trains and planes, coats and bags are usually stored in the "overhead compartment". "Overhead" means above (one's) head. Example: There is a big cloud overhead. A compartment is a separate space, section or room. Example: All suitcases must be kept in the baggage compartment in coach 15.
2 legroom: The "legroom" we have in a car, train or airplane is the space available to comfortably move and stretch our legs. The ticket inspector offers Edward a place in first-class with "comfy seats with lots of legroom". "Comfy" is a familiar way of saying "comfortable".
