2 release: This is correct. To "ease up (on an accelerator)" is to release it, or reduce pressure on it. Captain Dare is asking Jean to reduce speed (by reducing pressure on the accelerator with his hands). "To ease up (on coffee)" is to reduce coffee consumption, or to drink it with more moderation. The verb "to ease" is synonymous with "to relax", though it can also express the sense of "facilitating" or "making (something) easier". Example: This road is designed to ease traffic problems in the town.
