Which of the following best defines the expression a hot commodity as it is used in Philip's email?
A "hot commodity" is not necessarily affordable. In fact, when a product becomes a "hot commodity" it is not uncommon for the price to mysteriously increase. An affordable product is reasonably priced.
A "hot commodity" is not necessarily expensive. However, it is common that when a product becomes a "hot commodity" the price increases.
A "hot commodity" is not a product with a fever. A fever is an abnormally high temperature, usually associated with sickness.
A "hot commodity" is a product that is desired by many consumers and usually sells very well. Note: "Hot" has several different idiomatic connotations. For example, "hot" can also describe someone who is very attractive ("that man is hot"), as well as a product that has been stolen and then sold for a cheaper price ("this television is hot").

Philip tells Polly that he isn't "feeling so hot"
He is telling her that he does not feel well.
He is telling her that he does not feel well.
he does not feel well: The idiom "I'm not feeling so hot" means that someone is feeling "unwell" and is probably sick. This is what Philip is expressing when he says "I'm not feeling so hot".
he does not have a fever: The idiom "I'm not feeling so hot" does not indicate that Philip doesn't have a fever. It expresses that he simply feels bad. It is a figure of speech which is hardly ever used to express temperature literally. "A fever" is an abnormally high temperature (felt by a person).
he does not want to speak with her: This is not at all what this idiom expresses.
he will be late: Although it fits in the context of the dialogue, the expression "I'm not feeling so hot" doesn't express that Philip will be late to work.
