"To have a go (at something)" or "to give (something) a go" is to try something out. For example: Would you like to have a go at driving the car? Philip could ask this question to Icarus without changing the meaning of his original question. "Do you want to try your luck?" is an invitation to take a chance or simply try something.
This is a good question to ask someone before you shoot them, but not when inviting them to a party.
This is a request to go fishing. It can't replace Philip's question in this conversation.
"To give something a shot" is to try something out. For example: Would you like to give this puzzle a shot? Philip could ask Icarus this question without changing the meaning of his original question. "Do you want to try your luck?" is an invitation to take a chance or simply try something.
