What does Brent mean when he says that Moira has a great nose for a story?
What does Brent mean when he says that Moira has a great nose for a story?
This is not what Brent means here. To "tell stories" is to "recount tales", but Brent isn't commenting on Moira's ability to tell a story - rather her ability to find one.
The expression "to have a good nose for (a story)" does not mean that a person's sense of smell is exceptional: it is a metaphor.
Yes! Wait... no. Proboscis monkeys are certainly unique, and they are known for the shape of their noses, however Brent is not comparing Moira to a long-nosed monkey here.
"To have a great nose (for a story)" is to be "excellent" or "skilled" at finding a story, or to have a good intuition or predilection for it. Pigs have a good nose for finding truffles, and Moira has a good nose for finding news stories. Example: "He has a good nose for finding his way, even in foreign countries."
