1 instead of: This is the correct answer. "Instead of" and "rather than" share similar meanings: they both indicate that the preceding clause is preferable and not the subsequent. Example: I would prefer to see the play rather than the film. In general, Hannah is saying that, in Jean's case, she wouldn't usually have time for him except for this occasion.
1 behind: This is incorrect. "Rather than" and "behind" do not share the same meaning. The term "behind" describes the position of one object, person etc. which is located "in back of" another.
1 according to: This is incorrect. "Rather than" and "according to" do not share the same meaning. "According to" means "as indicated by", for example: According to my calculations, this should be the year 2156.
1 despite: This is incorrect. "Rather than" and "despite" do not share the same meaning. "Despite" something happening means "in spite of" something happening or "even though" something happens.
2 take: This is the correct answer. "Rather than" is usually either followed by a verb in the infinitive (without "to") or a gerund. As a general rule, both verbs in the two clauses (before and after "rather than") should be in the same tense. Example: He is going by taxi rather than taking the train.
2 taking: This is incorrect. "Rather than" can be followed by a gerund but not in this case, since the verb in the main clause ("to go" to work) does not use a present participle. This example uses the gerund form: The candidate is suspending, rather than ending, his campaign.
2 takes: This is incorrect. We cannot use the 3rd person present tense form in this example.
2 took: This is incorrect. We cannot use the past tense in this example.

Mei-Tsing is saying that she thinks Delavigne wants other products "beyond" the initial request of glass bottles. She wants to provide Delavigne with materials "in addition to" the glass bottles Kevin requires.
Nothing is said about the "style" of production which Delavigne prefers.
"Instead of" is not a synonym of "beyond". Using "instead" here would suggest that Mrs. Lee wants to provide Delavigne with other materials "in place" of the glass bottles Kevin has requested.
Mrs. Lee is proposing additional production services to Kevin, she does not want to change the production method for the glass bottles.

To discuss a project over dinner is to discuss it during dinner.
during: To discuss something "over dinner" indicates that a discussion will take place during the dinner. The term "during" links an action (discussing the project) with an event (the dinner). "During" almost always precedes a noun, (usually an event or period of time) in this case, "dinner".
after: "Over dinner" does not mean "after dinner".
before: "Over dinner" does not mean "before dinner".
instead of: "Over dinner" does not mean "instead of dinner".

This is correct. To do something "over lunch" is to do it at the same time as eating the midday meal. Some more examples: "We can discuss the project over dinner", "Think about my proposition over the weekend". In this context, "over" shares a similar meaning with "during".
This is not correct. "After lunch" means once the midday meal is "over", or "finished". This is not the meaning of "over" in this context.
This is not correct. To do something "instead of" something else means to do one thing "in the place of", or "rather than" another. Example: "I've decided to go to the party instead of doing my homework". This is not the meaning of "over" in this context.
