This term is incorrect. The term "reader" is never used to describe machines that play music, the term "player" is used instead: CD/MP3/record player. In the late 1970s, a laser turntable was developed, but this piece of technology is now largely redundant and prohibitively expensive.
A "turntable" is another term to describe a record player, although more precisely it describes the rotating "table" (or platform) that turns the vinyl record. A slang term for a pair of turntables is a pair of "decks". In the article we read that young people are "discovering turntables".
