A flight with a layover makes a stop in one or more location, and is delayed before leaving again. For example: My flight had a layover in London and I didn't leave for New York until 4:00 in the afternoon. A "layover" refers to the delay of a plane before reaching its final destination.
A "red-eye" flight is unrelated to whether a flight is commercial or private. A "red-eye flight" refers to the time a flight leaves.
A "red-eye" flight is unrelated to any stops a flight may make. A "direct flight" is one which makes no stops, whereas a "redeye" flight leaves early in the morning.
A "red-eye" flight is a late night (or early morning) flight. "Red eyes" refer to the way a tired person's eyes look. Harold specifically asks Jesus if there are any "red`-eye" flights available. The term "red-eye" is familiar, but common in American English. An "overnight" flight is one scheduled to travel through the late night or early morning.
