"To take a survey" is a different action than "reserving a space".
"To take a survey" is a way to gather or obtain information. It is done for a variety of purposes (political, marketing, personal) in a variety of different ways (telephone, word of mouth, Internet etc).
"To take a survey" is different than "instructing" someone or giving them directions.
The expression "to keep an eye on eye (on someone)" is to watch over them or supervise them. Although in a different context, the verb "to survey" can express a similar meaning, the term "survey" is being used as a noun here, and expresses an entirely different meaning.

According to a poll 1 done last week, 68% of young Canadians think that their government should continue with nuclear testing. As a result, the Canadian administration is considering reducing the voting age 2 (2 words) from 18 years to 14 years to allow younger people to support the government in the upcoming public elections. The number of young people interested in politics 3 has increased greatly since the government decided to declare nuclear war on the US.
1 poll: A "poll" is a survey or measurement of opinions on a specific subject taken from a group (also called a "sample") of people. Sometimes the sample is random or arbitrary, and sometimes it is targeted towards a specific group (male teenagers who use the Internet, or female smokers with one ear, for example). We often find the results of a poll just before a general election.
2 voting age: "Voting age" refers to the age at which people are legally permitted to vote (or participate) in public elections. For example, the voting age in the United States and Great Britain is 18, meaning that once you are 18 years old, you are legally allowed to vote. Moira reports on "Americans of voting age" who disapprove of current US President Tom Shrub's policies.
3 politics: "Politics" are the activities associated with the governing of a certain country or area. When Brent says "we turn our attention to politics", he means that he and Moira will be discussing matters of government and politics.

1 habits: A 'habit' is a pattern of behaviour that is often acquired through repetition, for example: After smoking two packets of cigarettes I acquired a smoking habit. The text refers to 'fragrance buying habits' which are modes of behaviour when buying perfumes, such as always buying expensive colognes or only buying fragrances at Christmas.
2 findings: A 'finding' is a conclusion reached after an examination or investigation. Example: After his mission to China, Kevin gave Bruno his findings on the factories he visited. We read in the text 'Please find below our key findings' which is a useful expression, often used in reports, to indicate that the main points of the report will follow.
3 surveyed: To 'survey (a group of people)' is to collect the group's opinions, often about things like political views or their attitude to new products. In the text we read that 'over 5,000 males were surveyed by Smell Solutions about their fragrance buying habits' meaning that a group of 5,000 males responded to Smell Solutions market research group and gave them their opinions about buying perfumes. Note that one can also 'take' or 'conduct' a survey.

2 waste: The verb "to waste" generally refers to "consuming something needlessly". For example, "Don't waste the water, we've only got enough for 3 days". In this article, we read that Elkie Johns has been accused of "wasting" or "throwing away" a lot of money on his new album.

1 survey: A "survey" is a questionnaire that collects people's opinions, often about things like political views or their attitude to new products. Example: After buying a new vacuum cleaner, I was asked to complete a customer satisfaction SURVEY. In the conversation, Susie talks about a survey that was used to explore men and women's attitudes to TigerLily: "according to the survey, Wayne thinks that wearing TigerLily makes him look tough".
2 trend: A "trend" is a "tendency", "inclination", or "fashion". This term can be used to describe both serious movements ("This graph shows the trends in political values over the past year") and less serious fads ("The latest trend is orange cardigans"). In the conversation, Susie says that she has "noticed a surprising trend: TigerLily isn't being bought by Rebecca" (it is being bought by "Wayne").
3 advertising: The term "advertising" describes the act of promoting a product, usually through the media, with the aim of increasing sales. We often shorten this to "ad". Example: Our sales have doubled since we started ADVERTISING on prime-time television. In the conversation, Bruno asks Susie if (considering the surprising survey results) Delavigne has "spent millions of dollars in advertising aimed at the wrong people".
4 aimed: "To aim" is to point or direct (a gun, weapon or anything) in order to hit a target. Advertising is usually directed or aimed at a group of people in order to generate a maximum of sales. This is what Bruno means when he talks about "advertising aimed at the wrong people"; Delavigne has spent millions of dollars on adverts directed at women, when in fact, it is men who are buying the product.
5 bought: "To buy" is to obtain something by paying money for it. It is an irregular verb (buy, bought, bought). In the conversation, Susie uses the passive voice: "TigerLily isn't BEING BOUGHT by Rebecca". The passive voice, constructed by placing the past participle of a verb after "be", focuses more on the action, while the active voice focuses more on the person who did the action. Compare the following: (ACTIVE) Jack Kerouac WROTE "On the Road" in 1951. (PASSIVE) "On the Road" was written in 1951 (by Jack Kerouac).
6 disposable income: "Disposable income" is the money available to spend (after essential costs such as rent have been paid). Example: Young professionals have a large DISPOSABLE INCOME. In the conversation, the socioeconomic group named "Rebecca" is described as being a woman between 30 and 45 with a large disposable income and a weakness for luxury products.
