The first time I saw Luna DeLune, she [not done] was brushing 1 her teeth.
We [not done] were watching 2 television when you called.
While I [not done] was sleeping 3, someone stole my dog.
1 was brushing: We use the past progressive tense to describe parallel actions in the past. At the moment that the speaker first saw Luna, she was in the process of brushing her teeth. The past progressive tense is formed with a past tense form of the auxiliary 'be' and the 'ING' form of the main verb.
2 were watching: We use the past progressive tense to describe a continuous action in the past which was interrupted. Usually the interrupting action uses the simple past tense (called). Note that the past progressive tense is often introduced by terms such as 'while' and 'when'.
3 was sleeping: We use the past progressive tense to describe a continuous action in the past which was interrupted. Usually the interrupting action uses the simple past tense (stole). Note that the past progressive tense is often introduced by terms such as 'while' and 'when'.

2 teeth: The 'teeth' are the white protrusions from gums (the pink parts of the mouth), used to chew (or masticate) food. In this text, Polly writes that Brian has 'perfect teeth'. Note that the singular form of 'teeth' is 'tooth'. One tooth, many teeth.
