Fill in the blanks below with terms from the audio you just heard.

A difficult, hard or awkward problem can be described as a "tricky 1" problem.

If an object is absent or can't be found it is "missing 2".

A "desk 3" is a piece of furniture where people work. It is generally a flat surface made of wood or metal with four legs.
1 tricky: The adjective "tricky" describes something (like a math problem) which is difficult to understand or solve. For example: "This exercise is very tricky." In other contexts, "tricky" can mean "untrustworthy" or "devious". Richard Nixon, US President, was known as "Tricky Dicky" or "Tricky Dick".
2 missing: A "missing" object can't be found. In this dialogue, Icarus says that his calculator is "missing" or "lost".
3 desk: "A desk" is a piece of furniture typically used for writing. Desks often have drawers or compartments to store items as well. Icarus cannot find the calculator which he usually keeps on his desk.
练习 2
To announce a new word for his colleagues to find, Brian says, 'here's a trickier one'.

If something is 'tricky', it is:

To announce a new word for his colleagues to find, Brian says, 'here's a trickier one'.

If something is 'tricky', it is:
If something is 'unusual', it is 'strange' or 'uncommon'. Example: Snow in July is very unusual. 'Unusual' is not a 'synonym' of 'tricky'.
If something is 'fun', it is 'enjoyable', 'amusing' or 'pleasurable' to do. Example: Video games are fun but bad for your social life. 'Fun' is not a 'synonym' of 'tricky'.
This is the best choice here. The term 'tricky' means 'difficult' or 'hard'. 'Trickier' is the comparative form, so 'a trickier question' is a 'more difficult question'. Here's another example: 'This English lesson is too easy for me. Do you have anything trickier?'.
If something is 'unexpected', it surprises you because it is not expected. Example: The restaurant received an unexpected visit from a health and safety officer. 'Unexpected' is not a 'synonym' of 'tricky'.
