A restaurant's "specials" are dishes or meals which have been prepared specifically for a particular day. "Specials" are not on the regular menu and are not always available. The "specials" change from day to day. Note: The term "specials" is mainly used in the US. "The dish of the day" is used in Great Britain. The French term "plat du jour" is sometimes used in English-speaking restaurants as well.
The term "discounted meal" indicates a meal that is offered at a reduced price, which is not the same as the daily "specials" served by the restaurant.
The term "low-calorie meal" indicates a meal that is low in calories, sugar, or fat, and this does not indicate the daily "specials" served by the restaurant.
The waiter's favorites are the dishes that the waiter personally likes on the menu, however these aren't the restaurant's specials. Note: Some restaurants offer "The Chef's Favorites" to indicate the "specials" or recommended dishes, however the waiter or server does not determine the specials of the day.
