There is et there are correspondent à "il y a".
Il y a un problème.
Il y a 20 personnes à la fête.
On emploie there is devant un nom singulier et there are devant un nom pluriel.
Il y a une erreur / Il y a des erreurs.
Il y a un client dans la chambre / Il y a deux clients dans la chambre.
Comme en français, on emploie there is/are (il y a) devant le nom, et pas après.
Il y a deux chats dans le jardin.
Il y a une mauvaise odeur dans le couloir.
On peut aussi employer there is/are dans les négations, dans les questions et à la forme contractée, suivant les mêmes règles que pour le verbe to be.
Y a-t-il un souci ? Non, il n'y a pas de souci.
Y a-t-il des clients dans la chambre ? Non, il n'y a aucun client dans la chambre en ce moment.

There are 50 rooms in the hotel (il y a 50 chambres à l'hôtel) avec there are + nom pluriel (50 rooms). Ex. : there are many people in the room (il y a beaucoup de gens dans la chambre).

There aren't umbrellas on the beach (il n'y a pas de parasol sur la plage) avec there + aren't To be, present simple, negative, short + nom pluriel (umbrellas). Ex. : there aren't any cookies in the jar (il n'y a pas de biscuits dans le bocal).
There is not enough space (il n'y a pas assez de place), avec there is (+ not) devant un nom singulier (ici, space). Ex. : there is a computer on the desk (il y a un ordinateur sur le bureau) ; there is not a dog in the garden (il n'y a aucun chien dans le jardin).

There are many restaurants in the area (il y a beaucoup de restaurants dans le secteur), avec there + are + nom pluriel (restaurants). Remarque : Pour indiquer une grande quantité on emploie many + nom dénombrable. Ex. : there are many flowers in the park (il y a beaucoup de fleurs dans le parc).
There is a problem with your reservation (il y a un problème avec votre réservation) avec there is + nom singulier (a problem). Ex. : there is an orange on the table (il y a une orange sur la table).
