Complete the following sentences with the most appropriate term.

Make 1 me a promise: that you will never put absinthe in my organic ginseng herbal tea again.
Make sure 2 you take notes from the meeting, so you can explain everything to me later.
Be sure 3 she gives you real diamonds, not fake ones. We can’t make the same mistake as last time.
1 Make: "To make a promise" is to vow or to guarantee (that you will do something). The speaker is asking the other person to agree never to add absinthe to the speaker's tea in the future. Another example: "You can't leave now! You made me a promise that you would stay until the end of the fireworks display!".
1 Make sure: The construction "to make sure" is followed by a verb, not a noun like "a promise". For example: "Make sure you get up early enough to see the sunrise. It's beautiful there".
1 Make for: We cannot use the phrasal verb "to make for" in this sentence. "To make for (a destination)" is to travel towards (a destination). For example: "The weather was fine, so they made for the beach".
2 Make sure: "Make sure you take notes" is an instruction to take notes which conveys the importance of this action. We could also say "Make sure to take notes", "Be sure to take notes" or "Be sure you take notes". Another example: "Make sure you write clearly".
2 Make: We cannot use the verb "make" on its own to instruct someone to remember or ensure to do something.
2 Don't fail: The construction "don't fail" is followed by a verb in the full infinitive (with "to"). We could say: "Don't fail to take notes".
3 Be sure: "Be sure she gives you real diamonds" is an instruction to be careful or to pay attention, in order to be sure to have received real diamonds. We could also say "Make sure she gives you real diamonds". Another example: "Be sure they don't see the secret recipe".
3 Be good: "Be good" is an instruction used to request compliant, helpful or cooperative behavior. It is generally used on its own, and cannot be immediately followed by a verb like "she gives". For example: "Children, please be good when your grandparents come to visit".
3 Be safe: "Be safe" is an instruction similar in meaning to "Be careful" or "Ensure your personal security". It is generally used on its own, and cannot be immediately followed by a verb like "she gives". For example: "Oh, my son, you will be working in a war zone! Please, be safe!".
