La forma negativa breve di to be in inglese

She is not a star ➝ She's not a star (lei non è una star). She's not è la forma contratta di she is not. Usa la forma contratta nel parlato e in situazioni informali. Es.: she's not Canadian / she isn't Canadian (lei non è canadese).

Lisa and Sean are not from abroad ➝ Lisa and Sean aren't from abroad. They aren't
è la forma contratta di they are not (loro non sono). Nota: si può dire anche they're not. Es.: they're not from Hawaii / they aren't from Hawaii (non sono delle Hawaii).

I am not cold ➝ I'm not cold (io non ho freddo. Lett.: io non sono). I'm not è la forma contratta di I am not (io non sono). Nota: il soggetto I (io) ha solo una forma contratta. Esempio: I'm not okay with this (non sono d'accordo con questa cosa).

Shorty isn't the hotel porter (Shorty non è il fattorino dell'hotel), con isn't (forma breve di is not), che è la forma negativa contratta del verbo to be (essere) usata con soggetti come he (lui), she (lei) e it (esso/essa) (Shorty = he). In generale, si usa isn't (o 's not) dopo il nome di una persona, un animale, un oggetto o un luogo. Es.: the hotel's not in the city centre / the hotel isn't in the city centre (l'hotel non è nel centro città).

Si potrebbe dire, ad esempio, they aren't hotel porters (non sono portieri d'albergo), con aren't che si riferisce al soggetto they, e non a he (lui) (= Shorty) come nella frase originale.

Si può dire she's not happy (lei non è felice) o he's not Luke (lui non è Luke), ma non si può usare 's not dopo il soggetto I (io).

're not (non siamo/non siete/non sono) segue soggetti come we (noi), you (voi) o they (loro), non I (io). Es.: we're not in Bath at the moment (non siamo a Bath in questo momento).

Caroline isn't the hotel's chef (Caroline non è la chef dell'hotel), con isn't , che è la forma negativa contratta del verbo to be (essere) usata dopo il nome di una persona come Caroline (= she). Nota: si può dire anche Caroline's not the hotel's chef. Es.: Magda isn't a kind receptionist / Magda's not a kind receptionist (Magda non è una receptionist gentile).

Usiamo to be prima di un aggettivo (qui, alone), per descrivere persone, animali o cose. Esempio: you aren’t tall / you’re not tall (tu non sei alto/a).
