hat: A "hat" is something that we wear on the head. Cowboy hats usually have a wide brim to protect against the rain or sun, or to help light a fire. The most famous brand of cowboy hats is the Stetson.
shirt: A "shirt" is a garment worn on the body (or the torso). It usually has a collar, buttons and 2 (long or short) sleeves for the arms. Cowboys traditionally wear checked or denim shirts.
jeans: "Jeans" (or a pair of jeans) are trousers, usually blue-coloured and made of denim. Cowboys often wear jeans because they are durable and look good with a pair of cowboy boots. Note that in the singular "jean" describes the denim fabric - never the (pair of) trousers.
boots: A "boot" is a type of high shoe. Cowboys boots are usually made of leather and have a high heel, a pointed toe and no laces. Cowboys wear boots because they usually ride horses. Note that we normally refer to "a pair of" (or 2) boots.
jacket: A "jacket" is a short coat, usually with a zip or buttons and 2 sleeves for the arms. Cowboys wear jackets when they are cold and lonely and have a long way to go home.
