Which of the following statements best summarizes Polly's advice to Icarus?

Which of the following statements best summarizes Polly's advice to Icarus?
Polly simply describes Fiona's competitive spirit, but she never encourages Icarus to "match" Fiona's competitive spirit.
There is no indication of this in the text. Polly simply writes that Fiona will be "coming by" or visiting the Delavigne offices.
Polly writes that Fiona has a tendency to be very proud (She takes pride in always being right). She is not advising Icarus to act with pride.
This is the best choice here. Polly writes: "We have no worries that the review will go off without a hitch. But please be careful!" Polly's expression "be careful" indicates that Icarus should be "cautious", "prudent", or take precautions before the review.

At the beginning of the dialogue, Susie tells Harold: "I'm warning you in advance..."

Which of the phrases below could replace this idiom in the dialogue and express a similar idea?

At the beginning of the dialogue, Susie tells Harold: "I'm warning you in advance..."

Which of the phrases below could replace this idiom in the dialogue and express a similar idea?
The word preview cannot be used in this type of construction in English. As a verb, we generally use "preview" when talking about a film, movie or other visual media. "To warn" should not be confused with "to preview" or "to prevent", verbs which have a different meaning in English.
Susie's phrase "I'm warning you in advance" does not express the idea of "having said" or "mentioning" something in the past. We cannot replace Susie's phrase with this one.
One cannot "be obvious with someone". In English, something (an idea, a solution, a course of action) IS obvious.
This phrase, although it doesn't express exactly the same meaning as Susie's line in the dialogue, could replace it without dramatically changing the meaning of the sentence. "To be up front" with someone means to be completely honest with them, and is a very direct way of speaking to someone.

This is a correct choice. Bruno writes that Brian "comes recommended by people (Bruno) respects" and that he is "very happy to have him working with us". Bruno also concludes his email by saying "I'm very happy to have him working with us. You'll soon see why". This indicates that Bruno is confident in Brian's abilities.
This is an incorrect choice. The term "warning" carries a connotation of impending or possible danger. Although Bruno is writing to Philip in order to alert him that he will be visiting him with Brian, it would be inaccurate to say that this email is a warning about Brian (the new assistant). Brian is not a danger or threat, simply a new member of the Delavigne staff.
This is a correct choice. Bruno writes to Philip, "I will be stopping by your office this afternoon with my new special assistant Brian Jones."
This is an incorrect choice. There is no indication that Brian is to replace Philip in Bruno's email. Bruno says he has a request for Philip, but does not say what it is, so it could be anything. Bruno writes in the beginning of the email that Brian is in fact his new personal assistant.
There is no indication that Bruno has already been to Philip's office. This email is simply to alert Philip that Bruno and Brian Jones will be stopping by later.

Don't forget to conjugate the verbs correctly!

This verb means to advise or notify someone to be careful. "I have to warn 1 him of his enemy's evil plan!"

This verb means to assert, to declare or to demand something (such as recognition).
Hint: This verb is often used to describe a statement or assertion which is not necessarily factual. "He claimed 2 that the project was his idea, but everyone knew that it was actually Sylvia's idea."

This verb means to maintain or keep possession (of something). "I decided to retain 3 my stocks in the Delavigne Corp despite their shaky 2nd quarter results."
1 warn: "Warning" is the correct answer. To "warn" someone is to advise or notify them of something, and usually implies that they should be careful. The term often signals approaching danger. Another example: "I warned you not to bother me when I'm sleeping. Now, I'm going to get my revenge!" In the dialogue, Ira states that it is his responsibility to "warn" or alert his fellow shareholders that Delavigne stock is becoming a bad investment, in his opinion.
2 claimed: "Claimed" is the correct answer. To "claim (this land in the name of the Queen)" is to assert or declare the possession of a new land for her majesty. In this example, the speaker would like to assert or take credit for a good idea. In this dialogue, Bruno suggests that Ira doesn't truly represent the shareholders' opinions, as he claims to do. Another example: "He claimed all responsibility for the disaster."
3 retain: "Retain" is the correct answer. To "retain" is to keep possession of something. Another example: "After a long court battle, I was able to retain custody of my children." In this dialogue, Ira says that he can't recommend that the shareholders "retain", or keep, their shares of Delavigne stock because of its recent decline.

Luna does suggest bringing her cat to the office, but Bruno says "No Luna, the cleaning man will have to be fired". Bruno does not let Luna bring her cat to work.
Bruno does not tell Luna to "warn" the cleaning man. Rather, he wants her to take direct action: to "terminate the contract with the company altogether". There will be no last chance!
This is a true statement. Bruno says that the company and their cleaners "proved that they're not a good fit". "To be a good fit" is to be "suitable" or "appropriate". Bruno is saying that the cleaning company is "unsuitable" or "inappropriate". Note that we can also say that clothes or shoes are "a good fit" when they are the right size. Examples: "Michael is a good fit for the job", "My new shoes aren't a very good fit: they hurt".
