O past simple (passado simples) de to be (ser/estar) e to have (ter)
Lembrete: o simple past (passado simples) descreve ações concluídas no passado. Para verbos regulares, adiciona-se -ed ao infinitivo (sem o to).
assistir → Eu assisti a algumas séries ontem à noite.
No past simple (passado simples), os verbos to be (ser/estar) e to have (ter) são irregulares. As formas de to be variam de acordo com o sujeito.

Também é possível usar there (há/tinha) + was/were (era/eram, havia) para falar sobre a presença de coisas ou pessoas no passado.
Havia uma mosca no meu prato!
Havia muitas pessoas no show no último sábado.

There were clouds in the sky (havia nuvens no céu) com there were To be, past simple tense + substantivo plural (aqui, clouds) para indicar a presença de um elemento plural no passado. Ex.: there were many guests at the hotel (havia muitos hóspedes no hotel).

The rooms were dirty. (Os quartos estavam sujos.) To be, past simple tense Ex.: the seats were all taken (os assentos estavam todos ocupados).
