Beaucoup (mucho) y très (muy)

Beaucoup (mucho) y très (muy) se usan de forma diferente:

  • Con un verbo, se usa beaucoup (mucho) y se coloca después:

Me gusta mucho la pizza.

Mi madre habla mucho.

  • Con un nombre, se usa beaucoup + de (mucho/a, muchos/as), que se coloca antes:

Hay muchos turistas en París.

  • Con un adjetivo o un adverbio, se usa très (muy) y se coloca delante:

Londres es una ciudad muy grande.

Théo corre muy rápido.

  • Con avoir faim, soif, mal, envie, peur, etc. se usa très (muy):

¡Tengo mucha hambre!

Tenemos muchas ganas de conocer a Victor.

1 très :

Mon chien est très intelligent (My dog is very intelligent). We use très (very) to add information about an adjective, in this case intelligent (intelligent). Example: Nina est très calme (Nina is very calm).

1 beaucoup :

We normally use beaucoup (a lot) with a verb. Here, with the adjective intelligent (intelligent), we need très (very). Example: mon chat dort beaucoup (my cat sleeps a lot).

2 beaucoup :

Il y a beaucoup de touristes ici (there are a lot of tourists here). We use beaucoup + de (a lot + of) before a noun like touristes (tourists). Example: il faut manger beaucoup de légumes (you should eat a lot of vegetables).

2 très :

We can use très (very) with an adjective, but not with a noun like touristes (tourists). Example: cet appartement est très petit (this apartment is very small).

3 très :

Ce train va très vite (This train is moving very quickly). We use très (very) in front of words like vite (quickly), lentement (slowly), souvent (often), etc. Example: Paul parle très doucement (Paul speaks very softly).

3 beaucoup :

We use beaucoup (a lot) after a verb, not with an adverb like vite (quickly). Example: ma mère aime beaucoup ce jardin (my mom likes this garden a lot).

1 beaucoup :

We can use très (very) with an adjective, but not with a verb like aimer (to love). Example: ces spaghettis sont très bons (this spaghetti is very good).

2 très :

Ce livre est très intéressant (This book is very interesting). We use très (very) with an adjective, in this case intéressant (interesting). Example: Marie est très contente (Marie is very happy).

2 beaucoup :

We use beaucoup (a lot) with a verb, not with an adjective like intéressant (interesting). Example: Magda voyage beaucoup (Magda travels a lot).

3 beaucoup :

Louis a beaucoup d'amis (Louis has lots of friends). We use beaucoup + de/d' (lots of, a lot of) before a noun, in this case amis (friends). Example: Anna a beaucoup de travail (Anna has a lot of work).

3 très :

We only use très (very) before an adjective or an adverb. Here, with the noun amis (friends), we need beaucoup d' (lots of, a lot of). Example: cette baguette est très bonne (this baguette is very good).

2 beaucoup :

Carla a beaucoup de chaussures (Carla has a lot of shoes). We use beaucoup + de (a lot of) before a noun like chaussures (shoes). Example: cet homme a beaucoup d'argent (this man has a lot of money).

2 très :

We can use très (very) with an adjective, but not with a noun like chaussures (shoes). Example: ton frère est très sympa ! (your brother is very nice!).

3 beaucoup :

Paul parle beaucoup (Paul talks a lot). We use beaucoup (a lot) with a verb, here parle (talks). Example: les enfants s'amusent beaucoup (the kids are enjoying themselves a lot).

3 très :

We could say Paul parle très vite (Paul talks very fast), but we need to use beaucoup (a lot) here after parle (talks) on its own.
