1 four :

The picture shows un four (an oven). When referring to an oven, the verb allumer means “to switch on”, and éteindre means “to switch off”. Example: il faut préchauffer le four à 180 degrés (the oven must be preheated to 180 degrees).

1 far :

Un far breton is a delicious traditional cake from Brittany, but sadly that isn't what is shown in this image. Example: j'aime bien boire du cidre avec le far breton (I like to drink cider with far breton).

1 fourchette :

This is an image of un four (an oven), not une fourchette (a fork). Example: mets la fourchette à gauche de l'assiette (set the fork to the left of the plate).

2 sucre :

This is an image of un bol de sucre (a bowl of sugar). The adjective associated with sucre is sucré (sugary/sweet). Example: - Tu mets du sucre dans ton thé ? - Oui, j'aime le thé bien sucré (-Do you put sugar in your tea? -Yes, I like sweet tea).

2 miel :

Le miel means “honey”, but here, we see sucre (sugar). Example: je mets du miel dans mon yaourt, c'est délicieux ! (I put honey in my yogurt, it's delicious!).

2 moutarde :

La moutarde means “mustard”, which would make an unusual cake, but we see sucre (sugar) here. The French are well known for their love of mustard, including la moutarde fine (fine mustard), la moutarde à l'ancienne (old-fashioned mustard) and not forgetting the famous moutarde de Dijon (Dijon mustard)! Example: il faut de la bonne moutarde pour réussir une mayonnaise (you need good mustard to successfully make mayonnaise).

3 lait :

This is an image of une brique de lait (a carton of milk). Milk comes in a variety of forms, including lait entier (whole milk), lait demi-écrémé (semi-skimmed milk) or lait écrémé (skimmed milk). Example: j'adore le café au lait (I love coffee with milk!).

3 huile :

This is an image of une brique de lait (a carton of milk), not de l'huile (some oil). Huile is pronounced . All kinds of oil are available, including l'huile d'olive (olive oil), l'huile de tournesol (sunflower oil) and l'huile d'arachide (peanut oil, groundnut oil). Example: mets un peu d'huile dans la poêle (put a little oil in the frying pan).

3 vinaigre :

This is an image of une brique de lait (a carton of milk), not vinaigre (vinegar). Example: il y a trop de vinaigre dans la sauce ! (there's too much vinegar in the sauce!).

4 œufs :

This is an image of des œufs (eggs). We say un œuf (an egg) and des œufs (some eggs). Example: j'ai besoin de trois œufs pour faire une omelette (I need three eggs to make an omelette). Sounds like a cracking idea to me!

4 fleurs :

This is an image of des œufs (eggs), not des fleurs (flowers). Example: j'achète des fleurs au marché (I buy flowers at the market).

4 cheveux :

Les cheveux means “hair” - not something you'd want to be cooking with! Here, we see des œufs (eggs), which make a much  better cake. Example: Caroline a les cheveux bouclés (Caroline has curly hair).
