This is how we create the imperative forms of regular verbs ending in -are and -ere.

Scrivere
(tu) scrivi

We use the imperative to:

  • Give orders and make requests:

Riordina subito la tua stanza. riordinare, imperativo presente

Tidy your room immediately.

Lavate i piatti dopo aver mangiato. lavare, imperativo presente

Wash the dishes once you've eaten.

Stendi i panni in giardino. stendere, imperativo presente 

Hang the clothes out in the garden.

  • Give instructions or advice, or make suggestions:

Gira a destra. girare, imperativo presente

Turn right.

Spegnete il telefono. spegnere, imperativo presente

Turn off your phone.

Mangiate più frutta.mangiare, imperativo presente

Eat more fruit.
