a (city) block (US): a square area of the (city) surrounded by streets, usually containing several buildings
In most cities in the United States, streets are planned and constructed on a grid, forming "city blocks" which are square or rectangular.

He lives only three blocks away, we do have to cross 3 very busy roads to get there though.
Where is the park? It's on the next block just down the street.
