Verbs ending in -ir that are conjugated like dormir (to sleep) in the present tense

Many verbs that end in -ir, including dormir (to sleep) and partir (to leave), sentir (to feel), sortir (to go out), mentir (to lie), etc. are conjugated as follows in the present tense:

Dormir en
Je dors
Tu dors
Il dort/elle dort
Nous dormons
Vous dormez
Ils dorment/elles dorment
Partir en
Je pars
Tu pars
Il part/elle part
Nous partons
Vous partez
Ils partent/elles partent

 

We keep the final consonant of the stem (dormir, partir, etc.) only when forming the present tense of the nous, vous and ils/elles forms.

to serve: I serve / we serve

to go out: I am going out / you are going out
