(une viande) bleue : bloody, rare (meat) adjectif
To order your meat bleu(e) is to order it the least cooked possible. It is equivalent to ‘bloody’ or ‘extra rare’ in English.
(un steak) saignant : (a) rare (steak) adjectif
Literally, ‘saignant’ means ‘bleeding’ or ‘bloody’.
(un steak) à point : (a) medium, medium rare (steak) adjectif
(un steak) bien cuit : (a) well-done (steak)
Ordering your meat bien cuit in France is a major faux pas. You may be laughed out of the bistro.
