Reminder: the past simple describes completed past events.
to listen → We listened to the announcement last night.
In the negative form, follow the structure:
- subject + did not + infinitive without to
to open → I did not open the door.
to go → Anna did not go to London.
In the interrogative form, follow the structure: did + subject + infinitive without to + …?
to drink → Did you drink last night?
to come → Did they come by bus?
Notes:
- the negative form did not can be shortened to didn't.
I did not like the cake → I didn't like the cake.
- these structures also apply for the verbs to do and to have.
What did you do last summer? Sadly, I didn't do much.
Did you have a break? No, I didn't have a break.
