Do not confuse the adjective "left hand" with an actual "hand". If something is on the "left-hand side" it is located or directed towards the left.

The "bottom drawer" means the drawer "closest to the floor". Underneath expresses something different.
This is correct. Polly tells Bruno that the sales figures are in the "bottom, left-hand drawer of his desk". The "bottom drawer" is the "lowest" drawer, or the one closest to the floor. If something is on the "left-hand" side, it is located or directed towards the left side.
