Choose the TRUE statements from the list below.

There may be more than one correct answer! Choose all that apply!
This is a true statement. Horatio asks Bob, "Why are you here?" which is the best indication that he wishes to know the reason for Bob's visit.
This statement is not true. Bob asks Horatio "Didn't Polly tell you I was coming by?" and Horatio responds "oh yes". This is a clear indication that Polly did inform Horatio of Bob's visit.
We can assume that Horatio is "undressed" or "nude" during this dialogue because Horatio tells Bob: "let me put on some clothes first".
This is not a true statement. At the beginning of the dialogue, Bob asks Horatio "Can I come in?". He is asking for permission before entering Horatio's office.

Susie is upset (angry and unhappy)! Why?

Susie is upset (angry and unhappy)! Why?

Choose the TRUE statements from the list below. Select all the reasons that Susie gives for being unhappy!
This statement is true. Susie announces that she doesn't appreciate Philip's "sexual innuendos and constant comments" on her body and clothes! This is one of the reasons that Susie is upset and unhappy with Philip. In this context, "figure" and "body" are synonymous.
This statement is true. When Philip declares that Susie "loves it" when Philip stops by for chats, Susie responds that she in fact "hates" or "detests" when Philip visits. This is one of the reasons that Susie is upset or unhappy with Philip.
This statement is false. Luna hasn't taken anyone's side in this discussion, she simply wants to hear what Susie has to say about Philip. "To take someone's side (in an argument)" is to support one person's argument or to favor one point of view over another.
This statement is false. At no point in this dialogue does Susie say that Philip has touched her, either appropriately or inappropriately. "To be angry (at, with someone)" is to be mad at them or upset with them.
This statement is true. Susie tells both Philip and Luna that she is sick of Philip's "stupid sexist nicknames". In this dialogue, Philip uses several "nicknames" (familiar or affectionate terms for a person or object) for Susie and Luna, including "honey bunch", "pussy cat", "sugar pie", "Mamacita" and more. Philip even refers to himself as "Daddy"! To be "sick of (a person)" is to be tired of them or frustrated with them.

There may be more than one correct answer!

According to this article, Patrice's innovations as a clothing designer included:

There may be more than one correct answer!
This statement is correct. In the second paragraph, we read that Patrice was "one of the first to use black runway models in his shows". This means that some of the women (and men) modeling Patrice's designs during fashion shows were black people. The statement also suggests that previously, white models were generally used. The term "ethnicity" refers to one's cultural origin or common history.
This statement is correct. We read that Patrice "popularized the "ready to wear" style of clothing" which refers to clothing that is mass-produced and sold without any tailoring. As you can imagine, this sort of clothing is more affordable than clothes made specifically to your measurements!
This statement is incorrect. In the first paragraph, we are told that Patrice's "legacy" (heritage or contributions) included, "imbuing traditionally masculine clothing with a female sensibility". This indicates that he adapted men's clothing (pants, jackets) for women. "To imbue" is to deeply influence something with a particular idea or flavor.
Exercise 4

What is he asking for?

The man in this dialogue asks Kevin for "spare change".
What is he asking for?
Although "change" can refer to the act of transformation, and the man in this dialogue comments on Kevin's social status, the term "spare change" is unrelated to "political transformation".
Although the man in the dialogue makes several remarks about Kevin's appearance, including his clothing, when he asks Kevin for "spare change", he is asking for money, not clothing.
The man on the subway is not asking for "advice" or "counsel". He is asking for money.
The man on the subway asks Kevin for "spare change", which is money. The adjective "spare" means "extra" or "surplus". The noun "change" has many meanings, but in this context, "change" refers to money in coin form. "Coins" are small pieces of metal which make up dollars or pounds. The question "do you have any spare change?" is a common way to ask for a little bit of money.

This chapter of the Good Day USA series focuses on buying:
This is not the best choice here. "Clothes" are items of fabric which we wear to hide our shame of nakedness.
This is not the best choice here. Although the speaker does refer to "Chinese fortune cookies", he is mentioning this as just one example of food that can be bought at one type of shop or store.
"Food" is the right answer here. "Groceries" are items of food and drink, such as vegetables, rice, pasta, or orange juice! The term "grocery shopping" refers to the activity of buying food and drinks. Example: "I really need to go grocery shopping: I'm tired of eating jam sandwiches".
This is not the best choice here. The speaker tells us about both expensive and cheap shops: he does not focus only on "cheap" or "inexpensive" products.
