an (English) course: an (English) class, program, series of lessons, curriculum
Mechanics course a series of classes about mechanics
a (race) course: a (race) route, circuit, track
a (golf) course: a (golf) field, area
Take care not to confuse it with the part of a meal:
first course appetizer, starter, food eaten before the main course
