1 in session: "In session" is the correct answer. At the start of legal proceedings, judges say "The court is now in session", and Brian is inspired by this for his Current Events Club! When something is "in session", it "has begun or started", and is in the process of happening!
2 presiding: "Presiding" is the term we were looking for here. To "preside (over an event)" is to "lead", "oversee", or "direct" (an event). The person who "presides over" an event has a position of authority. Here's another example: "The Prime Minister presided over the cabinet meeting".
