Luna begins by apologizing for "keeping Trey waiting". She then says that "there was a horrible traffic jam on highway 101 this morning" which is her explanation for why she was late. A traffic jam occurs when there are many cars on the road or an accident has occurred, and the flow of traffic is poor.
Luna has doubts about Trey's ability to continue the interview because of his wound, however she never cancels the interview with him. Her last sentence is "Let's go sit down in my office" indicates that the interview will continue.
Trey says to Luna that he "was a few minutes late" to the interview. He responds to Luna's apology by telling her that he was also late this morning.
Trey never speaks of trying to take a shortcut. He does say that he traveled through a "rather rough neighborhood" on his way to the interview, but this does not mean that he tried to take a shortcut, but that he went through a "dangerous" neighborhood.
Trey speaks of the bullet passing "through the fleshy part of my arm" which expresses that Trey was "shot" (by someone with a gun). Trey also states that his lateness is due to this accident, so we know that he was shot while on his way to the interview.
