Mick wants to "throw another prawn on the barbie" with Philip.
What in god's name does Mick mean by this?
Sorry, but no.
Do not confuse a "prawn" with a "pawn" which is a piece used in the game of chess. "Barbie" is not the name of a town, but an abbreviation for "barbecue".
Believe it or not, this is the correct choice. In Australian English, a barbecue is often referred to as a "barbie". Mick wants to "throw" a "prawn" on the barbie with Philip. A prawn is a type of large shrimp (a crustacean). The entire expression "let's throw a shrimp (or prawn) on the barbie" is an Australian expression which is an invitation to barbecue.
This is not what Mick is suggesting to Philip here. Mick is actually inviting Philip to a barbecue, and he does not specify where the barbecue is to take place.
Hmm. Although a Barbie is in fact a female doll with an unrealistic body, this is not what Mick is expressing to Philip here. A doll is a toy which usually resembles a human.
