Definition

a (sharp) pencil: a long thin wooden object containing lead for writing or drawing (with a good point) noun
a pen: a ballpoint, a biro, a writing device which uses ink noun
a pencil sharpener: an object for making pencils ready to write when they have become too flat noun

Although earlier in their conversation, Kevin and Mrs. Lee were discussing perfume containers, at this point in the dialogue, they are talking about pens and pencils. A "container" describes anything (a cup, a box, a crate) which "contains" or holds something. For example: a glass is a container for water.
This choice doesn't make any sense. Hardware describes metal objects and utensils such as locks, tools, or certain types of computer equipment.
Kevin has already eaten very well, and so he is no longer soliciting Mrs. Lee's advice on Hong-Kong cuisine.
Mrs. Lee is offering Kevin pencils, which are a type of stationery. "Stationery" refers to materials used for office or schoolwork such as pens, pencils, staplers, notebooks etc.
