This is the only correct answer here. Luna offers Kevin the equipment to begin "knitting", which is a hobby or pastime enjoyed by many people. She also suggests that he could attend her reading group. These suggestions represent "a better, and cheaper, way (for Kevin) to spend (his) time". "Hobbies" are things we do for fun in our spare time.

ask for an advance on his salary more often.

This is not true. Luna is not happy about Kevin asking for an advance, and she does not suggest that he do this more often.

eat potatoes because they are cheap.

This is a false statement. Luna mentions the Irish potato famine to remind Kevin that not everyone is as lucky as he is, but she does not suggest that he eat lots of potatoes in order to save money.

stop playing poker altogether.

This is not a true statement. To stop doing something "altogether" is to "entirely" or "completely" stop. Luna does not tell Kevin to do this. Rather, she writes that he could not play poker "quite so often", or "reduce the frequency" of his poker games!
