1 extinct: If a particular species dies out due to disease, change in environmental conditions or over-hunting, it becomes "extinct". A famous example of an extinct species is the "Dodo". The Dodo was a flightless bird, native to the island of Mauritius up until one hundred years ago. In today's broadcast, Brent describes dinosaurs as a "real, but extinct species" meaning that dinosaurs did exist once but not anymore.
2 Beast: A general term for any living thing that isn't human, and particularly wild is a "beast". In the report, Moira says that "Carbon dating gives us a precise idea of when these beasts did actually exist". "Beasts" refers to dinosaurs in the report.
3 species: A "species" is a group of similar individuals which are able to reproduce sexually or otherwise. Lions, tigers and bears are all species of mammals. In today's report, Brent describes dinosaurs as being "a real but extinct species".
