Which of the following statements summarizes the action of this dialogue?
Kevin has actually "missed his turn", he hasn't replaced somebody else in line, somebody else has replaced him.
There is no indication that Kevin has been asked to "leave the pharmacy". He has actually been asked to "take another number", or to wait longer.
"To taunt" is to tease or provoke. The pharmacist isn't provoking Kevin or the customers at the pharmacy, he is simply letting Kevin know that he has missed his turn.
Kevin is waiting in line (or in the queue) at the pharmacy. They have a number system in place where the customers are served in the order which they arrive. The pharmacist calls out Kevin's number (43), but he gets no immediate response from Kevin, and so he calls out the next number (44). Kevin realizes that he has missed his turn, and so he must take another number.
