How to pronounce the letter Q

In Spanish words the letter q is followed by the vowel u.

The u is silent and is not pronounced. The qu sound before the vowels e/i is pronounced as in:

Queso

cheese

Tranquilo

calm

Note: the qu sound is the same as the c sound when it's placed in front of the vowels, a, o and u :
