Some irregular verbs in the simple present

In the simple present, some verbs ending in -cer (like convencer/to convince, ejercer/to exercise and vencer/to defeat) are irregular with the pronoun yo (I): the c se changes to a z.

They are conjugated thus:

Convencer
Yo convenzo
Tú convences
Él/ella/usted convence
Nosotros/as convencemos
Vosotros/as convencéis
Ellos/ellas/ustedes convencen
Ejercer
Yo ejerzo
Tú ejerces
Él/ella/usted ejerce
Nosotros/as ejercemos
Vosotros/as ejercéis
Ellos/ellas/ustedes ejercen
Vencer
Yo venzo
Tú vences
Él/ella/usted vence
Nosotros/as vencemos
Vosotros/as vencéis
Ellos/ellas/ustedes vencen

Aunque ejerzo la medicina, fumo.

Although I practice medicine, I smoke.

Si te venzo en el partido de tenis, me invitas una cerveza.

If I beat you in the tennis match, you buy me a beer.
