The gerundio (“-ing” form equivalent) forms of irregular verbs
Reminder: we use the gerundio ( “-ing” form equivalent) to talk about actions that are currently taking place.
Magda sta parlando con Anna.
Magda is talking to Anna.
Some irregular verbs take different consonants in the gerundio. These are the main ones:
- fare (to do, to make) → facendo (doing, making)
- dire (to say) → dicendo (saying)
- bere (to drink) → bevendo (drinking)
- porre (to put) → ponendo (putting)
- condurre (to drive) → conducendo (driving)
- introdurre (to introduce) → introducendo (introducing)
- tradurre (to translate) → traducendo (translating)

The gerundio forms of other verbs derived from the verbs above follow the same pattern: rifare (to redo) → rifacendo (redoing); contraddire (to contradict) → contraddicendo (contradicting); esporre (to exhibit) → esponendo (exhibiting), etc.
