Uses of cuyo

We use cuyo (whose) to refer to a possession.

Él es el escritor cuyo libro ha ganado muchos premios.

He is the writer whose book has won many awards.

It's placed before the noun it is referring to and must agree with it in terms of gender and number: cuyo, cuya, cuyos y cuyas.

Ana cuya abuela era Betty es la propietaria del hotel Borbollón.

Ana, whose grandmother was Betty, is the owner of the Hotel Borbollón.

La ventana cuyos cristales rompí, está reparada.

The window whose glass I broke has been repaired.

Cuyo/a/os/as is sometimes accompanied by a preposition.

Los vecinos sin cuya ayuda no habría hecho este viaje, están cuidando mi gato.

The neighbors, without whose help I would not have made this trip, are taking care of my cat.

En un lugar de la Mancha de cuyo nombre no quiero acordarme. 

In a place in La Mancha, whose name I don't want to remember. 

Note: cuyo is mostly used in literary and written language.
