appropriate: suitable, convenient, adequate
Do you think a tea set is an appropriate gift for a wedding anniversary? Is it a suitable gift?

inappropriate: unsuitable, inconvenient, inadequate
The e-mail Philip sent Polly was inappropriate. It really wasn't suitable.

to appropriate: to take something for one's own use, usually without permission
to appropriate (somebody else's car)
