Following adverbs of quantity such as trop, pas assez, beaucoup, plein, énormément, etc, the article des becomes de.
J’ai des boutons J’ai plein de boutons. I have pimples / acne I have a lot of pimples / acne.
Il a des problèmes Il a beaucoup de problèmes. He has problems He has plenty of problems.
Note: When it precedes a vowel or word starting with a vowel sound, de becomes d’.
J’ai des amis je n’ai pas assez d’amis I have friends I don’t have enough friends.
Vous mangez des abricots vous mangez trop d’abricots. You are eating apricots You are eating too many apricots.
