Les verbes en -yer au présentIn the present tense, verbs that end in -yer, such as payer (to pay), ennuyer (to bore/irritate) or nettoyer (to clean) are conjugated like regular first group verb (ending in -er). The exception to note is that the y becomes an i in the je, tu, il/elle and ils/elles forms.
Note that verbs ending in -ayer can be written in the present in two different ways.
Il essaye (ou il essaie) d’apprendre le français. He tries to learn French.
